San Diego — Despite recent turmoil in financial markets, and partly because of volatility that makes real estate look stable by comparison, experts said San Diego is among markets capitalizing on job growth, demographic shifts, high barriers to entry for new construction, and a wide variety of investors looking to put cash to work as larger “gateway” cities become too pricey.
- PwC has noted that investors in its recent survey have started adding San Diego to their list of real estate markets that they see as having the potential to outperform the overall U.S. market in 2016. The typical reason given is the concentration in life sciences and technology, industries seen as having “significant tailwinds” due to the aging of the U.S. population.
- “There is tremendous pent-up demand for multifamily,” Mitch Roschelle said of the national market.
